If you feel anxious or scared of going to the dentist, you’re not alone. At our dental practice, we are here to help alleviate your fears so that you can get the oral health care you need. Our goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible during your time with us.
Answering Your Questions
One of the most important things that our dental office does is to answer your questions. You can even make a separate visit to talk with Dr. Chester and explain your fears about dental care. Sharing your anxiety allows us to respond to and anticipate your needs during each of your visits.
Explaining Your Care
When you come in for a cleaning, exam or dental treatment, we will explain every step of your care. Explaining what we are doing can help to lessen your anxiety because you will know what to expect. When you have a clear picture of the treatment we will perform, your mind won’t be able to imagine a worst-case scenario that could feed into your fears of dental treatment. You should also know that modern dentistry uses techniques that are designed to minimize your pain and discomfort.
Communicating to the Dentist During Treatment
Establishing a “stop” signal with the dentist may help to lessen your fears. You could decide on a signal such as raising your left hand so that the dentist will pause. During the pause, you could rinse your mouth or just take a deep breath for a moment. Your treatment can continue after you rinse or breathe.
If you have dental anxiety, Robert Chester, DDS strives to be your best choice for relieving your dental anxiety. Call our office today for more information.
